Choosing  the  Right Dress

For Your Body Shape

Look Amazing for your Wedding Photographs

Top Tips that you can trust

After working with many brides before and after their special days, it need not come as a surprise to hear that wedding photographers have great insight around style and dresses when it comes to weddings. As a photographer working with brides closely by day and navigating through photo editing at night, i know when a bride is at ease in front of the camera; looking good and feeling comfortable too. A huge part of this lies in ensuring that the bride has picked the right wedding dress for her body type. In this article I'll share a few tips on choosing a wedding dress to suit your body's shape.

Body Shape

1.

Pear-Shaped

Many women fall into the pear-shaped category with smaller tops and slightly rounded bottoms. The best wedding dress style for your body shape is a dropped-waist ball gown. These dresses will work like a charm to conceal your rounder bits, while drawing the eye to your upper body. You could opt for a slightly off the shoulder neckline or strapless - but stay clear of V-necks because they'll simply draw the eye downward.

2.

Full-Busted

If you have a fuller bust, try to highlight this positive aspect by wearing supportive foundation garment i.e. a corset or good bra. You may also want to balance the silhouette by adding some ruching or extra fabric to your skirt. On your wedding day, you'll want your guests to look at your face, and not a revealing neckline, so perhaps save a low cut neckline for the honeymoon!

3.

Petite

If you're tiny, the wedding dress tip for you is to keep it simple for added height. Either an A column sheath or A-line dress would work best for you because they create the illusion of elongation in photographs. Remember that a busy ball gown with lots of fabric and detail may overpower your little frame so keep it simple.

4.

Tall

Aren't you a lucky one? Well, as a tall bride you have many options to choose from - full ball gowns, columns, A-line styles - they'll all look great on you! One thing to remember is to avoid a high neckline (it increases height) as well as high hairstyles. But you can go all out on your veil! If you've always wanted a long, dramatic veil, the good news is that you have the ideal body type to pull it off in photographs.

5.

Pregnant

If you're pregnant and already showing, choosing your wedding dress can be a difficult task because you'll have to do some guess work around your size according to your wedding date. The loose fit of an empire waistline will be best for your comfort and pics - this more relaxed silhouette will translate better on camera.

6.

Boyish

If you have more of a boxy body shape, you should opt for something that will created more of a nipped-in waist for extra shape. Try an empire-waisted or perhaps a basque-waisted gown for added shape through its V dip. You could also consider wearing a supportive corset that will help shape your silhouette for photographs as well.

Finally, it's not about having a model's figure on your wedding day; your dress should be made to fit your body type with accents on your good bits. Hope you've found this helpful, and happy wedding planning!
